My Experience Designing a Personal Website with WordPress and Elementor

I have been working on designing my personal website for some time. My goal is to create a space where I can introduce myself, document my experiences, and share the things I learn along the way. For me, this website is more than just an online presence; it is an opportunity to develop my skills, gain new experiences, and document my progress.

I have used WordPress, Elementor, and the Woodmart theme to build this website. Throughout this process, I have become familiar with different areas of WordPress, page design, theme settings, and post structure. I have also tried to bring the website closer to my vision by experimenting with different features and exploring available options.

Why Did I Decide to Build a Personal Website?

One of the main reasons I decided to build a personal website was to have an independent space where I could introduce myself and document what I learn. I wanted a place where I could regularly share my experiences, ideas, and the knowledge I gain throughout my journey.

In my opinion, website design is not just about creating visually appealing pages. It is also an opportunity to learn, experiment with different tools, and find solutions to real-world problems. That is why, instead of simply reading about website design, I decided to take action and experience the challenges of this process firsthand.

My Experience with WordPress and Elementor

One of the most important parts of this journey has been becoming more familiar with WordPress and the Elementor page builder. While designing my website, I learned how to create and edit pages, customize their appearance, and manage website content.

One important thing I learned was the difference between pages and posts in WordPress. I use pages for relatively permanent sections of the website, such as the About Me and Contact pages, while posts are used to publish articles and document new experiences.

Elementor has also allowed me to design different sections of my pages according to my preferences and gives me greater control over content layout. Throughout this process, I have realized that achieving the desired result requires not only familiarity with the tools but also enough time to review and refine the details.

My Challenge with Customizing the Woodmart Theme Header

One of the most challenging and time-consuming parts of designing my personal website was customizing the header of the Woodmart theme. Finding the relevant header settings, adding or removing items, and changing their order were not always as straightforward as I had initially expected.

Localizing the header into Persian also presented its own challenges. Some sections could not be translated easily, and I had to explore different parts of the theme to find the correct place to change certain texts. As a result, I had to spend more time achieving the appearance I wanted.

This experience taught me that working with a ready-made theme involves more than choosing colors and adjusting the visual layout. Understanding the theme’s settings and finding the right place to make each change are equally important.

Throughout this process, I learned that it is better to make changes step by step and check the website after each adjustment. This approach helps me understand the effect of each setting and makes it easier to identify the cause of any problems that may arise.

Designing a Website in Three Languages: Persian, English, and Turkish

One of the most important aspects of my project has been designing my website in three languages: Persian, English, and Turkish. I used the Polylang plugin to manage the different languages and tried to structure the website so that users could access the content they wanted in their preferred language.

Throughout this process, I paid attention not only to translating the content but also to keeping menus, headings, and different pages consistent across languages. I also created a separate login page for each of the three languages so that the login section would align with the website’s multilingual structure.

Choosing these three languages was not just a technical decision for me; it was also connected to my interest in working internationally. In the future, I would like to collaborate with people and organizations from different countries, and I hope my website can serve as a platform for introducing my skills and experiences to a wider audience.

Using Custom Elementor Designs and CSS Coding

While designing my personal website, I have tried to go beyond Elementor’s standard features by using custom designs and CSS coding to personalize different sections according to my ideas and needs. This experience has given me greater creative freedom and helped me find suitable solutions for implementing different design ideas.

I have tried to make the results of these efforts visible in the website’s appearance and various sections. My goal is to continue learning, gain more experience, and develop my ability to design diverse pages and bring creative ideas to life.

This work has allowed me to design parts of the website according to my preferences and needs while gaining greater control over visual details, element positioning, and content presentation. Using CSS alongside Elementor has also made it possible to implement certain visual adjustments more precisely.

For me, this experience is an important part of developing my web design skills. I want to improve my ability to combine ready-made tools with custom modifications and find suitable design solutions for different needs and ideas.

My goal is to design projects in the future that not only look good but also have a well-organized structure and provide a positive user experience. I want these projects to showcase my abilities more effectively.

Making My Website Multilingual with the Polylang Plugin

Another task I completed while designing my personal website was making it multilingual. I used the Polylang plugin to manage my website’s content in three different languages.

At first, I thought creating a multilingual website would mainly involve translating the text. However, I soon realized that different parts of the website, including menus, headings, and pages, needed to remain consistent with the selected language. Therefore, I had to pay attention to the overall website structure and how the pages were connected to one another.

In addition, I designed a separate login page and adapted it for all three languages. It was important to me that users could interact with the login section in their preferred language and enjoy a more organized experience.

Working on this part of the project helped me become more familiar with multilingual content management in WordPress. It also taught me that building a multilingual website is not just about translating content; consistency across different sections and attention to the user experience are equally important.

My Goal in Creating a Trilingual Website

One of the reasons I decided to design my website in three languages was my interest in working internationally. In the future, I would like to collaborate with people and organizations from different countries and create more opportunities for learning, professional growth, and career development.

For this reason, it was important to me that my personal website was not limited to a single language and could reach a broader audience. I see making the website multilingual as a step in that direction, helping me learn more about the design and management of websites.

Of course, I understand that having a multilingual website alone is not enough to enter international markets. Nevertheless, I believe this experience can be part of my learning journey and help me prepare for future professional opportunities.

My goal is to gradually expand my knowledge and skills and eventually participate in projects that are not limited to a particular country or language.

What I Have Learned While Designing My Website

Designing my personal website has taught me that achieving the desired result requires patience and a willingness to spend time learning different tools. Some settings may seem complicated at first, but by examining them carefully and making changes step by step, it becomes easier to understand how they work.

I have also realized that when designing a website, I should not focus solely on the visual appearance of its pages. Other aspects, such as content structure, consistency across different sections, and the overall user experience, are equally important.

I am still at the beginning of my learning journey, and I know there is much more to learn to improve my website. That is why I want to continue documenting my new experiences, exploring different features and methods, and gradually developing the website further.

Conclusion

Building my personal website has been a journey of learning, experimentation, and discovering my abilities. Along the way, I have worked with WordPress and Elementor, experienced the challenges of customizing the Woodmart theme, and expanded my website into three languages using the Polylang plugin.

Each stage has taught me something new and helped me develop a more detailed understanding of website design and management. I intend to continue this journey, improve my skills, and share my real-world experiences on this website.

I hope that in the future, this website will become more than just a place to introduce myself and document what I learn. I also hope it will help me connect with more people and create professional opportunities on an international level.
